Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
The federal funds to restart the SCSEP program have been released and organizations across the country are beginning to resume the program. All Hennepin County SCSEP job seekers active in June 2025 will have the option to return to the program. East Side Neighborhood Services, however, does not have the capacity to resume the program and will not be restarting it. Instead, the program will be transferring it to another organization.
There are still a lot of details to work out and we don’t have more specific information for job seekers today. As soon as we know more, we will contact current job seekers and update this message for others. We appreciate your patience!
SCSEP promotes personal dignity and self-sufficiency for older, unemployed, low-income Americans by placing them in temporary part-time community service jobs where they earn minimum wage.
If you are a Hennepin county resident age 55 or older, unemployed, and income-eligible, you can gain valuable on-the-job training while serving your community, work at a local nonprofit, and develop skills while searching for unsubsidized employment.
Not only does SCSEP sustain vital aging and empower older Americans to remain connected, but it also helps dozens of local community, faith-based, and public agencies carry out their missions.
SCSEP is operated under a USDOL grant and in cooperation with Senior Service America, Inc. SCSEP is funded by a $45.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. This funding provides 90% of the support for SCSEP with SSAI providing 10% match or $5 million. The SCSEP Program is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
