    Living Well Workshop
    February 8 - March 15
    Wednesdays
    12:00 - 2:30 PM

Feel better about your health! Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop has empowered people around the nation to make the changes in their life that they want to make. The group is discussion-based with topics including pain management, physical activity, healthy eating, communicating with health care professionals, and more. A chronic condition is any ongoing health issue such as diabetes, arthritis, chronic pain, depression, and vision or hearing loss.

This program has been designed by the Stanford University Patient Education Research Center. This program is funded under contract with the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging Inc. as part of the Older Americans Act Program funding. Presented in partnership with the Wilder Foundation.

    It helps participants to:

    • Find better ways of dealing with pain and fatigue
    • Discover easy exercises to help improve or maintain strength and energy
    • Learn the appropriate use of medications
    • Improve nutrition
    • Talk effectively with family, friends and health professionals
    • Understand new treatment choices
    • Feel better about life

“I now have a new sense of being in control,” said Doris, “The Workshop has really helped me put life back in my life.”

The workshop meets every week, for two hours, for six weeks. It is led by specially trained volunteer leaders, some who have health conditions themselves. The program covers new topics each week and provides opportunities for interaction and group problem solving. The leaders are more like coaches who guide participants through the topics. The answer to someone’s question is usually in the room from another participant who has gone or is going through a similar situation.

The program serves those who are 60 years of age or better who are living with a chronic condition themselves or are caring for someone who is.  Everyone who participates will receive a, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions” reference book.  A sliding fee scale is used to determine the fee of the program; however no one will be turned away for an inability to pay.

    Call to register: (612) 787-4045 or eva@esns.org

    Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle
    Saturday, February 11, 2017
Snowshoe Race Begins at 9:30 AM
Dog Walk Begins at 10:00 AM

The Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle (TCSS) is the
biggest snowshoe race in Minnesota! Participants come from around the country to participate in this fun and challenging winter race.
The TCSS is a US Snowshoe Association's sanctioned event.

    REGISTER ONLINE TODAY!
or fill out and mail in the registration form

There is a 5K and a 10K track set up for the racers, and a 5k dog walk! Awards and certificates are given to the top 3 men and women finishers in each of 7 age categories, which are listed on the registration form. The race will be officially timed. The race is also part of the Braveheart Series, a free series that allows racers to earn points and win free prizes.

Not that serious? This event is fun for people of all ages and abilities. Walking or running with snowshoes is a fun and healthy activity. The TCSS is a great opportunity to get outside with your friends or family!

Proceeds from the 2017 TCSS are used to provide scholarships for children to attend Camp Bovey, East Side Neighborhood Services summer camp where urban youth learn to respect themselves, one another, and the environment.

Following the Race/Walk, a post-event warm up chili lunch will be served at East Side Neighborhood Services (1700 Second Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413).

The Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle honors the memory of Joe Holewa, event co-founder and a lifelong snowshoer up to age 87.

Canines for Camp - 5K Dog Walk -Since the Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle's inception, we have noticed an increasing turnout of racers with dogs. Racers will still be able to run or walk in the snowshoe race with their dogs, but we created a sub-event for dog lovers that is less competitive and more relaxing, but still a great way to get exercise for owners and dogs during the cold winter months. Each participant will receive a gift bag with dog items as well as a race shirt.

    REGISTRATION:
$35 entry fee, $40 after January 20th, ($20 for students aged 13-23) and $25 for the dog walk allows you to participate and includes an event shirt and chili lunch after the race. Snowshoes will be available for rental. Register on Its Your Race.

    SNOWSHOE RACER BIB PICK-UP:
Avoid race-day lines and check-in early! You can get your race number and confirm shoe rental. Pick up is on Friday, February 10 from 4-7 at East Side Neighborhood Services. Dog walkers do not need to pick-up a bib, as it is not a timed event.

    ON RACE DAY:
The race starts at 9:30am, but bib pick-up starts at 7:30am. We encourage you to arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to pick up your race number (and snowshoes if you are renting) and stretch and warm up before the race.

POST-EVENT ACTIVITIES: SILENT AUCTION & CHILI LUNCHEON

The Silent Auction will be displayed for auctioning at East Side Neighborhood Services (1700 Second Street NE. Minneapolis, MN 55413) and Chili Luncheon following the snowshoe race. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit children with financial needs to attend Camp Bovey, the summer resident camp of East Side Neighborhood Services.
To donate items to our silent auction, please contact Greg Ritter, (612) 787-4019 or gritter@esns.org

Racing For a Great Community Cause

All proceeds from the race and silent auction will benefit Camp Bovey, East Side Neighborhood Services’ Summer Youth Camp, located in Gordon, Wisconsin. Camp Bovey provides outdoor living and leadership development for children ages 8 to 14 - where urban youth learn to respect themselves, one another, and the environment. Each entrant will assist in raising funds to provide camperships for children and youth to attend Camp Bovey.
