En el fin de la serie de computaciόn básica, los estudiantes tendrán más tiempo para practicar, y la oportunidad de  tomar un examen para recibir una certificaciόn de Northstar Digital Literacy en Uso Básico de la Computadora, Microsoft Word, Internet, y Email!  Muéstreles sus habilidades a los gerentes de contratación!     Computaciόn Básica 1: Uso Básico
    En esta clase de nivel básica, aprenda informaciόn sobre la computaciόn y el vocabulario, como guardar los archivos, y como mejorar su uso del ratόn y el teclado.

    Computacion Basica 2: Microsoft Word 2013
    Aprenda como usar la barra de herramientas, utilizar funciones útiles de formato como la negrita, y las viñetas, y guardar o imprimir archivos. Practique algunos atajos del teclado. Aprenda algunos consejos útiles para el formato de documentos profesionales como un C.V. o una carta de presentación.

    Computaciόn Básica 3: Navegar el Internet
    Navigue el World Wide Web, máquinas de buscar como Google, y otras páginas útiles del Internet. Una introducción a las páginas de buscar trabajo, como Indeed.

    Computaciόn Básica 4: Navegar el Email
    Envíe mensajes de Email, navegue y organice su cuento, y aprenda sobre la seguridad en el Internet. Adjunte documentos como un C.V. o una foto con un mensaje.

    Computaciόn Básica 5: Práctica con la Computadora
    Practique de una manera independiente todo que haya aprendido en Computaciόn Básica 1-4, y prepárese para el Examen de Certificaciόn de Northstar Digital Literacy. La profesora podrá ayudar en esta sesiόn.

    Living Well With Diabetes Workshop
    August 4 to September 8 - Thursdays
    10:00 AM to Noon

    In this six-week, self-management workshop, participants discuss:

    • Managing symptoms
    • Communicating effectively with your healthcare team
    • Dealing with emotions and stress
    • Managing blood sugar levels
    • Monitoring risk factors
    • Reading nutrition labels
    • Planning healthy meals and snacks
    • Practical tips for fitness

    Reference book and healthy snack provided. Cost is based on ability to pay. No one will be turned away due to financial constraints. Caregivers and family members are encouraged to attend!

    The workshop meets every week, for two hours, for six weeks. It is led by specially trained volunteer leaders, some who have health conditions themselves. The program covers new topics each week and provides opportunities for interaction and group problem solving. The leaders are more like coaches who guide participants through the topics. The answer to someone’s question is usually in the room from another participant who has gone or is going through a similar situation.

    This program has been designed by the Stanford University Patient Education Research Center. This program is funded under contract with the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging Inc. as part of the Older Americans Act Program funding.  Presented in partnership with the Wilder Foundation.

    • Teens at Menlo Park Academy Alternative High School

    • Adults with employment services and a variety of programs supporting strong families

    • Older adults receiving nutrition, transportation, socialization and day care

    • Refugees and immigrants with basic needs

    • Food shelves providing food assistance to those who are in need

At the end of the series learners will be given more practice time, and even the opportunity to take an exam and receive a Northstar Digital Literacy Certification in Basic Computer, Microsoft Word, Internet, and Email!     Computer Basics Classes

    Computer Basics 1: Basic Computer Use
    In this beginner’s computer class, learn about basic computer use and vocabulary, how to save and store documents, and how to use the mouse and keyboard.

    Computer Basics 2: Beginner’s Microsoft Word 2013
    Learn the basics of Microsoft Word such as how to navigate the Word Toolbar. Use formatting tools such as Bold, Center Alignment and Bullets that are great for formatting resumes or cover letters, and save or print files. Practice some useful keyboard shortcuts to make your computer use more efficient.

    Computer Basics 3: Navigating the Internet
    Learn basic navigation of the World Wide Web, search engines such as Google, and other useful websites, including a short introduction to job search websites such as Indeed.

    Computer Basics 4: Navigating Email
    Learn how to send email messages, navigate and organize your email account, as well as some tips for internet and email safety. Attach documents such as a resume or picture to an email message. Learn how to send polite professional emails to networking contacts.

    Computer Basics 5: Computer Skills Practice/Review
    Independently practice everything you’ve learned in Computer Basics 1-4, as preparation for the Northstar Digital Literacy Certification Exam! The instructor will be present to answer questions and offer assistance.

    Computer Basics 6: Northstar Digital Literacy Certification Exam Take a four-part exam on the material you learned in Computer Basics 1-4 to assess your digital skills. If you pass an exam module with 85% or greater, you will receive a certificate in that area! Show employers your skills!

This workshop will introduce you to online job boards and how to navigate them and find the job that is best for you. In Intro to Online Applications, get real time practice with job applications or even submit an application to start your job search!
