Terra Murphy arrived at the East Side Thrift Store as a volunteer in February. A single mother, working to get her GED, wanted to gain skills in retail. She was a devoted volunteer, who worked her way up to a staff position. That is why Lynn Albright, store manager decided to nominate Murphy for the volunteer spotlight.
“Terra is excellent with customers and helping people that bring in donations,” said Albright. “She has learned to handle many different situations in the store such as dealing with shoplifters and assisting anyone who comes seeking help.”
Murphy’s display of great ethics and worker efficiency caught the attention of Albright. Murphy was promoted to a staff member this spring and serves as the fill-in manager when Albright is not in the store. She now trains new volunteers as well as supervises them. She also works with ESNS’ youth groups who come in for community service projects.
Albright gave praise of Murphy’s work and said she would provide a great recommendation if she ever needed it. “She has been an excellent addition to our staff and any employer would benefit from having her as an employee.”
